GTYC Friday News Round-Up 8/8/2008

Demolition

Demolition day is upon us! Monday morning Svec Construction will start the demolition process. The demolition should take three days, wrapping up on Wednesday afternoon if all goes to plan.

Dennis Svec has asked us to keep a ten foot open zone between the exterior of the building. This is to prevent any personal items that are currently on club grounds from being accidentally damaged. I took a quick walk around the building yesterday and it appears that the only things that need to be moved are a few lasers that are behind the building. Please feel free to use the Club this weekend, but on Sunday night all cars must vacate the parking lot until the demolition is complete.

The Interlakes and Melges that reside in the Northern part of the Clubs lot will need to be moved to one of three places. (Hopefully this is not new news to you as I have tried to brief as many people in person as possible on how this needs to look).

But in case you missed it:

1. Melges need to be parked on the cusp of the down grade of the ramp stern facing the water (just over the yellow line).

2. Interlakes need to be moved to the front lawn, packed bow to stern along the sea wall.

3. Rich Core of West Bay Boat Works on Carter road has offered his front lawn for anyone that would like to get their boats off property during the demo process.

It will be great to have a clean slate when all is complete. P.C. Tom Cowell and I will be on site Monday through Wednesday at various points helping to reclaim various major items in our kitchen that will be stored at MHA for the winter.

Reconstruction

The GTYC Reconstruction Committee has sent a project manual to several different design build firms in the area to obtain bids on our new facility. This manual drafted by Doug and his staff included the following items: Information to Bidders, Description of Work, Schedule Narrative, Bid Proposal Form and Special Conditions. The manual contains over 60 pages of information describing in exact detail what is expected and required by the GTYC Board of Directors for this project. Bids are due back by the end of August.

Doug and I also met with several interior design professionals to get their thoughts on how the interior of the new building is going to flow. We walked away with some great ideas on various little adjustments we can make to the interior, to make it really come alive.

We received a large portion of our insurance claim in the mail on Monday. The remainder of which will be coming as soon as we start the reconstruction. Which if all goes to plan should be sometime early this fall.

Nominations

The nominations meeting will take place on Wednesday night after the races have concluded.  If you personally, or know of a full member that would enjoy being a part of the governance of the GTYC please attend this brief meeting on the lawn. The BOD directors are going to have two board seats open along with a Rear Commodore position.

Have a great weekend!
