Reconstruction

I am excited to announce that last night the GTYC Board of Directors had a very special meeting. The BOD voted to approve the Reconstruction Committee's recommendation of a design build firm to construct our new building. After several meetings and countless hours of due diligence the committee felt it had enough information to make the recommendation. The Board has sent a letter of intent for the reconstruction of the GTYC facility to Lakewood Construction.

Lakewood is a large design build firm based in Holland , MI with local offices in Traverse City . The firm is using all local subcontractors, all with very good reputations. The architectural firm that will assist Lakewood in the design process is Clark, Walter, Sirrine of Traverse City. They have promised to take our conceptual renderings and take them to the next level.

Membership Meetings

We have planned to have an information meeting on September 16, 2008 at the Traverse Area District Library at 6:00 in Meeting Room A.

The fall membership meeting will be held tentatively the last week of September on Saturday the 27th at 6:00 pm at the Holiday Inn.

Costs and Voting

We are going to have to secure a small mortgage in the amount of $200,000 to cover the shortfall from our insurance proceeds versus the costs of the new building. In order to get incur a debt of that size, we need to get the approval of the majority of the membership per the GTYC Bylaws. So this year it is dire that you VOTE* and return your ballets as soon as possible. Ballots will be going out early next week so please watch your mailboxes.

*If we don't get a return ballot from you we will be contacting you by phone to get you to vote. So I beg you, please don't make me spend my evenings trying to track you down.

The ballot will also contain the candidates for the open Board seats and Rear Commodore. I can't stress enough how important it is that we get the necessary votes to start our project. Without your participation our project could stall indefinitely. It would be a tragedy to get this far into the process and have it not come to fruition.

The Board is charged up and ready to break ground on this project. If all goes to plan, we will have one of the nicest yacht clubs on the Great Lakes .

Have a great weekend.
