GTYC Friday News Round Up 8/22/2008
Nominations
The nomination process is complete for the upcoming Board of Directors and Rear Commodore vacancies. Our Club is blessed to have such qualified and well intentioned volunteers step up and take their turn directing the Club's future. For Rear Commodore: Katie Horvath. For Board:, Scott Reavely , Marc Nugent , Jim Sorbie , Dianne Hubert , Larry Vincler , Kim Lovell and Bill Allgaier .
The ballots will be going out sometime in early September. Along with voting for these positions we are going to be asking you to vote to approve a small mortgage for the construction of our future building. It is critically important to the clubs future that you complete the ballot and return it promptly. There are going to be three ways to vote this year. 1. Regular Mail. 2. Internet. 3. Fall Member Meeting (Early to mid September, details to follow).
Melges Regatta
This weekend is the annual Melges 24 regatta hosted by the GTYC. Mike Dow and Bob Clark are the chairs of the regatta and are expecting between 18-25 boats from all over the mid-west. We are open tonight on the lawn for those of you who would like to stop down and enjoy an afternoon or early evening beverage on the lawn. The weather forecast is for:
Saturday: Showers and thunderstorms likely, mainly before 2pm. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 83. Breezy, with a calm wind becoming southwest between 15 and 20 mph. Winds could gust as high as 30 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%.
Sunday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 73. Breezy, with a north wind 5 to 10 mph increasing to between 15 and 20 mph. Winds could gust as high as 25 mph.
If the forecast holds it should provide for some really exciting racing.
Reconstruction
Bids are due back by August 26 th from the (6) design build firms that we have submitted a request from. The reconstruction committee plans on going through each bid in detail and making a recommendation to the board on which firm to hire. We have some momentum now, just need to keep advancing the ball. I will provide a more detailed description of the entire process when we get to that point.
Have a great weekend.
